What is Guitar Tab

Guitar tab allows you to learn to play the guitar and songs without having to be able to read music.

Guitar tab is a set of six lines and each line represents a string on the guitar. The bottom line is the 6th string on the guitar (the thickest string) and the top line is the 1st string on the guitar (the thinnest string)

On the lines you will see numbers. Each number tells you what fret to play on that string.

If you look at the example on this page you will see that there are chord boxes, a line of standard music notation, and then at the bottom a line of guitar tab.

You will see on the guitar tab that the first number is a 0, followed by a 2. This means play the sixth string open (the zero fret) and then play the 1st string at the 2nd fret.

It's that easy!
