The instruction material on this lesson is very basic and is strictly for beginners. Cox explains basic right-hand technique and how to use the Stevens steel properly. He then goes onto demonstrate hammer-ons and pull-offs. Nothing fancy, just concise and accurate information.

Mr. Cox covers a lot of information that may seem obvious to someone who has played a musical instrument before; however, this same information presented to a novice can mean the difference between total frustration and an enjoyable musical experience. Cox seems to realize this, and it's one of the lesson's best attributes. Doug Cox ends his lesson with a simple but classy arrangement of the festival favourite 'Will The Circle Be Unbroken.'
