DVD REGION & FORMAT INFORMATION

There are two things to consider when purchasing a DVD, especially if you are buying a DVD in another country, or buying a DVD in your own country that has been imported.

REGION

The first is the Region Code.  A disc encoded with a region code will only play in player in that Region, or on a Multi-Region player.  All the DVDs sold by Hamcor are Region Free (sometimes called Region 0) so you don’t have to worry about Regions.

FORMAT

The other thing to consider is the Format.  Usually discs made in the USA will be in NTSC format and discs made in the UK will be in PAL format, although some UK Publishers now produce their discs in NTSC format.

USA

  • If you are in the USA and would like to play a NTSC disc then you should have no problem.
  • If you are in the USA and would like to play a PAL disc then you can play it on your computer.  If you want to play it in a DVD player then you will need a dual-format player.

UK

  • If you are in the UK and would like to play a PAL disc then you should have no problem.
  • If you are in the UK and would like to play a NTSC disc then you can play it on your computer.  There is also a good chance that your DVD player will be able to play NTSC discs – just check your player’s manual for NTSC playback
